Students learn how to complete a table of results and plot a straight line graph on a grid in the form y = mx + c . As learning progress they begin to consider the effect a negative gradient has on the direction of the line.
The start of the lesson recaps finding the equation of horizontal, vertical and diagonal straight line graph using the properties of a square. The plenary challenges students to find a pair of coordinates that lie along a line using algebraic methods.
Differentiated Learning Objectives
- All students should be able to plot a straight-line graph in the form y = x ± c
- Most students should be able to plot a straight-line graph in the form y = mx + c
- Some students should be able to recognise, sketch and produce graphs of linear functions.
