Area of Circles

Students are guided through deriving the area of a circle formula by approximating a circle from its sectors.

When the formula is derived, there are several examples provided for the teacher to model its application in calculating the area of a circle and semi-circle.

Differentiated Learning Objectives
  • All students should be able to derive the formula for the area of a circle.
  • Most students should be able to derive and apply the formula for the area of a circle.
  • Some students should be able to calculate the area of a semi-circle.
