Trigonometry and Modelling

Scheme of work: Year 13 A-Level: Pure 2: Trigonometry and Modelling

Students learn how to derive the compound and double-angle formulae through a geometrical proof. They use these formulae to solve quadratic equations in sin, cos and tan of an unknown angle and construct proofs involving trigonometric identities. Later, as learning progresses, they use expressions such as acosθ + bsinθ = Rcos(θ + β) to model real-life situations.
