Negative Binomial Distribution

Negative Binomial Distribution Lesson Description

Students learn to apply the negative binomial distribution to problems involving a fixed number of successes in a sequence of trials. They explore the notation X ~ NB(r, p) and use the probability mass function to calculate specific probabilities.

Later, they apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios like dice rolls and chess games, solving problems involving cumulative and conditional probabilities.

Members of the site can download the full lesson. This includes:

  • PowerPoint presentation with scaffolded examples and fully worked solutions.
  • Student handout of the presentation to work along with the teacher.
  • PDF for the tutorial used in the videos for students to work alongside.
