Students learn how to calculate the gradient and midpoint of line segments. Later, as learning progresses students work out the equation of a line that runs equidistant between two points.

At the start of the lesson students recap how to write the equation of straight line graphs in the form y = mx + c and ax + by + c = 0.

In the development phase, students learn how to work out the midpoint and gradient of a line segment. Later, as learning progresses coordinate pairs are given as unknowns.

In the plenary, students are challenged to use the gradient and midpoint of a line segment to find the equation of a perpendicular bisector between two coordinate pairs.
