Sum to Infinity of a Geometric Series

Students learn how to derive the sum to infinity formula, S∞ = a/(1−r), for a convergent geometric series, using the limit of Sₙ as n → ∞ when |r| < 1.

As learning progresses, students apply the formula to find the common ratio and first term from a given sum to infinity, including problems that require forming and solving simultaneous equations.
