Factorising Quadratics

In this lesson, students are introduced to writing quadratic expressions in the form x2 + bx + c as the product of two polynomials.

As they progress, students explore the difference of two squares and solve simple quadratic identities. The lesson includes examples and exam-style questions to help students build confidence.

Differentiated Learning Objectives
  • All students should be able to factorise quadratic expressions in the form x2 + bx + c where b and c are positive.
  • Most students should be able to factorise quadratic expressions involving the difference of two squares.
  • Some students should be able to solve quadratic identities by factorisation.
